Mouvement Social’s work in Akkar goes back to 1979. Before setting up a center in the region, our work was done through a mobile truck that used to visit the various villages, focusing on organizing local committees after assessing each village and determining their exact needs.
The first center was opened in Halba in 1985 due to its central location serving the full Akkar region, before moving to the current two centers in 1988.
The Akkar region suffers from many social difficulties such as school dropouts, women marginalization, youth unemployment, in addition to serious infrastructure deficiencies related to the roads, water network, electricity and many other lacking facilities.
Mouvement Social’s work is therefore focused on empowering vulnerable women and youth through socio-economic projects, in addition to education and child protection programs.
